Sam Golden began producing hand-ground oil colours for artists at the height of the depression in the 1930s. Artists such as Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock visited his shop in Manhattan to get paint. In the 1940s, he invented one of the first fine art acrylic paints. His expertise in paint making gave rise to Golden Artist Colors, a trusted source for high quality paints and mediums.
